This class is for all self-identified white people.
Please only take this class if you: 1) believe systemic and institutional racism is real 2) have read or currently reading White Ally: A Guide to Cultivating a Deeply Spiritual AntiRacism Practice 3) are able to attend All or at least 3 out of 4 of the classes
- Explore and identify how you may have internalized anti-blackness
- Increase awareness of whiteness, racial conditioning and white privilege
- Examine and challenge biases, conditioning, values and beliefs by exploring the intersection of yogic principles and antiracism
- Develop action steps for cultivating an antiracism practice using the framework of Yoga's 10 guidelines, the Yamas and Niyamas
Awakening to Whiteness is a guided exploration of systems of oppression. We will apply yoga's ten guidelines to cultivate an anti-racism practice. Awakening to anti-racism is an essential component to achieving liberation for us all. The practice of yogic principles and anti-racism has the potential to provide healing to ourselves and to the world. Through this time together we will learn to support, listen to understand, and act collaboratively in ways that unite, form a connection and spark compassionate action.
The class includes small group discussion (10 participants max), meditation, assigned readings and writing reflections. Join us with an open heart and mind, to gain the awareness, skills and compassion to change the world from the inside out.
